"It was a gray day, which makes for tough photography. The pictures I was taking outside weren't turning out very good, so I decided to head for one of the main buildings. The one at the south end of the compound houses a giant blast furnace. Access ladders allowed me to climb part way up the gargantuan structure, but the roof was leaky, and some of the upper catwalks had rusted nearly through. I was only able to proceed about half way up.",

Apparently though, none of the workers were willing to come in on a weekend with the weather as bad as it was. I pretty much had the run of the place, a fact which I made good use of.",

"After climbing back down, I began to get a feel for the true wonder of the place. Every tower, every pipe and rooftop was accessible in some way or another. I suppose it makes sense - the place is essentially a gigantic four acre wide, eight story high machine. It would need repairs frequently, and you don't want to have to haul out a crane every time a valve wears out. Still, walking along the top of a four-foot pipe with guard rails hand-welded to the sides can seem a bit surreal. ",
